چکیده

Abstract. To evaluate the improved emission estimates from online monitoring, we applied Models-3/CMAQ (Community Multiscale Air Quality) system to simulate air quality of Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region using two inventories with and without incorporated data continuous monitoring systems (CEMSs) at coal-fired power plants (cases 1 2, respectively). The normalized mean biases (NMBs) between observed simulated hourly concentrations SO2, NO2, O3, PM2.5 in case 2 were ?3.1 %, 56.3 ?19.5 ?1.4 all smaller absolute value than those 8.2 68.9 ?24.6 7.6 respectively. results indicate that incorporation CEMS inventory reduced simulation observation could better reflect actual sources regional pollution. Based on data, changes corresponding health impacts quantified for different implementation levels China's recent “ultra-low” policy. If sector met requirement alone (case 3), differences monthly compared our base policy comparisons, would be less 7 % pollutants. result implies a minor benefit ultra-low control if implemented alone, which is attributed its limited contribution total emissions YRD after years pollution (11 NOX, primary particle matter (PM) was enacted both selected industrial including boilers, cement, iron steel factories 4), 33 %–64 16 %–23 6 %–22 lower, respectively, depending month (January, April, July, October 2015). Combining CMAQ Integrated Exposure Response (IER) model, further estimated 305 deaths 8744 life loss (YLL) attributable exposure avoided region. analogous values much higher, 10 651 316 562 YLL avoided, sectors limits. In order improve reduce human risk effectively, coordinated multiple should implemented, substantially expanded major industries other industry.

Mapping Social Vulnerability to Air Pollution: A Case Study of the Yangtze River Delta Region, China

Many frequent and severe air pollution incidents have emerged across the vast parts of China recently. The identification of factors and mapping social vulnerability has become extremely necessary for environmental management and sustainable development. However, studies associating social vulnerability with air pollution remain sparse. With reference to research achievements of social vulnerab...

Advantages of a city-scale emission inventory for urban air quality research and policy: the case of Nanjing, a typical industrial city in the Yangtze River Delta, China

With most eastern Chinese cities facing major air quality challenges, there is a strong need for city-scale emission inventories for use in both chemical transport modeling and the development of pollution control policies. In this paper, a high-resolution emission inventory (with a horizontal resolution of 3× 3 km) of air pollutants and CO2 for Nanjing, a typical large city in the Yangtze Rive...

Atmospheric Emission Characteristics and Control Policies of Anthropogenic VOCs from Industrial Sources in Yangtze River Delta Region, China

A bottom-up inventory of atmospheric emissions of industrial MNVOCs in Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region was established for the period of 2010–2012. Results indicated that the total emissions of industrial VOCs increased from 3.34 Tg in 2010 to 3.99 Tg in 2012 at an annual average rate of 9.3%. Furniture manufacturing, machinery equipment manufacturing, architectural ornament, and petroleum ref...

Urban Household Carbon Emission and Contributing Factors in the Yangtze River Delta, China

Carbon reduction at the household level is an integral part of carbon mitigation. This study analyses the characteristics, effects, contributing factors and policies for urban household carbon emissions in the Yangtze River Delta of China. Primary data was collected through structured questionnaire surveys in three cities in the region--Nanjing, Ningbo, and Changzhou in 2011. The survey data wa...
